Since the implementation of our Safety Observation Card initiative we have been thrilled with the response we have received from our Crew's and their monthly submissions. All cards we receive are read and reviewed, and whilst there can only be one Safety Champion every month, each observation is carefully considered and often worked into our monthly safety themes or a Safety Flash from our HSEQ team.
Building on the success of our Safety Champion's in 2018, we are looking forward to continuing to receive Safety Observation Cards from throughout the Fleet in 2019.
With that in mind, we are very pleased to announce that the first Safety Champion of 2019 is Mr Rafal Mielczarski, AB on board the Standard Supplier.
During his most recent trip on board, Rafal submitted several Safety Observation Cards which displayed dedication to promoting and engaging in our safety culture. The award has been given in relation to his use of the stop the job policy endorsed on all our vessels.
During a job where the Vessel was engaged in cargo operations, the crane movements on board the corresponding barge had become erratic and caused him concern. A time out for safety was taken before resuming operations and the concerns discussed with the crane operator.
Any person onboard a Fletcher Vessel has the right and the responsibility to stop the job if they feel it is unsafe. Off the back of Rafal's observation, our HSEQ team have made our Stop the Job policy the topic of their upcoming theme of the month.
We would like to thank Rafal for his contribution and promotion of our company safety culture and offer our congratulations for becoming the first recipient of our Safety Champion Award for 2019!
